The whole concept of ‘FASHION’ is a broad one and hence, it comprises of several segments. Fashion designing deals with the designing aspect of the industry, in which fashion designer focuses on designing clothes and accessories and creation of smarter new styles. On the other hand, fashion technology is more about the use of technology for the production of the fabrics. It is the technology that enables a fashion experience when you wear it or interact with it. This course is designed to train students in the core garment manufacturing technology with an emphasis on best practices in Apparel Production. They are taught about design, production, management, fashion merchandising and also marketing. It involves the technical skills which include design, pattern construction, cutting and garment manufacture. Students are also trained in Information Technology domain so that they can contribute significantly in the fashion technology domain.

Subjects of fashion technology: Textile and Apparel Design Leather Technology, Fashion Merchandising, Visual Merchandising, Footwear Design, Jewellery/Gem Designing. Bachelor of Fashion Technology is a very specialized course and offered only in very few institutes across India. National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) provides a four-year course leading to B. F. Tech (Apparel Production) at the undergraduate level.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing class 12th/ Higher Secondary Examination in Biology, Maths, and Chemistry. For the Undergraduate course, passing 10+2 with 50% marks and for Post Graduate courses graduation.

In the prominent institutes, admission is strictly on merit- through written test, situation test, group discussion and interview.

These courses are aimed at understanding concepts related to costume, jewelry, leather goods and many other similar products where fashion matters While 10+2 are sufficient for Accessory designing and Fashion Designing, graduates are preferred for other courses.
