ABOUT COLLEGE
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS) one of the most renowned Institutions in India. It is the top private engineering college in India. In 1901 when the pillars of this Institution were built, it was Seth ShivNarainji Birla made a pathshala for their grandsons and then after the whole new era of education started. In 1929 the pathshala evolves as Intermediate College. In 1943 the Birla Education Trust was founded and the Intermediate College which was started as a pathshala was now a degree college and soon after post-graduate courses also started. In the process of changing and updating the education system in India the further high-level courses like Pharmacy, Arts and commerce were added to the courses and finally in 1964 Birla Institute of Technology and Science was incepted as an Institute with Dr. G. D. Birla as Founder Chairman and after that University was developed in association with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. And after that till now they are providing the best education in the world, with several other branches of BITS in Goa, Dubai, and Hyderabad. BITS Pilani is a deemed university established under Section 3 of the UGC Act,1956.
The campus consists cricket grounds and a sports activity center with the variety of sports facilities such as badminton, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, squash and many more. The college has good industry exposure with a number of companies coming for recruitment. Live talks are conducted on regular basis decorated with the presence of esteemed entrepreneurs, engineers, and businessmen, especially during the Technical fest and TEDx. The BITS Pilani has a very happening campus with a variety of quality projects being offered by the faculty helping in the enhancement of the abilities and get hands-on experience. There are a number of clubs and groups catering to the variety of interests in students.
The faculties are well equipped with their subjects and they make the classes very interesting and interactive. The student diversity is a healthy mix of people from all states and background. A few regional groups are formed for the sake of celebration of some festivals, otherwise students do not restrict themselves to these groups rather there is the existence of very friendly and healthy environment. The college fees are moderately high but merit and merit cum need scholarships are provided.
BITS is India’s only institute which does not follow the reservation system and does not provide any facilities based on the quota for any caste. Its alumni base consists many distinguished names like Prithviraj Chauhan, former CM of Maharashtra, Sanjay Mehrotra, the founder of Sandisk and many more. BITS also provides the students with the most flexible education system in India with 0% attendance facility, being the only institute in India to provide with this.
Here are some highlights of the excellence of BITS Pilani according to QS World University Rankings in the world is 801-1000 and in Asia is 187 and among BRICS nations is 109 in 2018. According to Times Higher Education World University Rankings in the world is 801-1000 and in Asia is 181-190 in 2018. In India by National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked 21 overall and 13 among universities and 16 among engineering colleges in 2017. By India Today it was 4th, by outlook India it was 5th and by The Week it was 7th among engineering colleges in 2017.
